Rob Kupec is a Minnesota State Senator. He represents District 4 in the western part of the state including parts of the counties of Clay and Becker and the cities of Moorhead and Detroit Lakes. Clay county is the fastest growing county in Minnesota outside of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. He is in his first year as a state senator and this is the first elected office he has served in. Senator Kupec is the Vice Chair of the Agriculture Broadband and Rural Development Committee and also serves on the Labor Committee, Higher Education Committee and the Health and Human Services Committee. In his first year, the Senator was chief author on 74 bills and co-author on another 109. He considers Fair Repair, Grain Indemnity and Rain Safety to be three of his most impactful bills he authored this last legislative session.

The Senator holds a degree in Atmospheric Science from the State University of New York at Albany. Before being elected, he spent 20 years as a local television meteorologist in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He has also done graduate studies in climate science and speaks regularly on the impacts of climate change in the Upper-Midwest. He has also worked with refugees that have moved to the United State to teach them about how to live in work in a climate that is much colder and harsher than the areas they have come from. Senator Kupec is originally from Connecticut and spent 13 years living in New York, where he ran a small business before moving to Moorhead, Minnesota in 2000. His wife is a professor of sociology at Minnesota State University Moorhead. They have one adult son that works in the aerospace industry in the Seattle, Washington area.
