Matt Schmitt has been with Cargill since 2016. As part of the Environmental Markets Team, Matt’s work focuses on identifying and accelerating new business models that can strengthen farm-level economics while also delivering climate-positive outcomes. Most recently Matt was part of Cargill’s carbon trading desk, and prior to that he helped launch a team for venture capital investments and digital product development opportunities in commodity trading.

Matt started his career as a US Army officer working in logistics and operations around the world. Following that and prior to joining Cargill, he worked in energy tech, deploying virtual peaking power plants and operating demand response programs. Matt has a BS in Math from West Point, an MBA from Yale, and lives in Minneapolis with his family.
